You must personally appear at the Hoboken Police Bureau of Identification Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, between the hours of 8 am and 3 pm, with a valid identification and proof of Hoboken residency, to begin the firearms application process. Please call 201-420-5107 to ensure the availability of the Firearm’s Investigator prior to your arrival.



Bar Card Applicants can apply at the Hoboken Police Department’s Bureau of Identification Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm.

Please be advised, in order to apply for a Bar Card you MUST have the following:

  1. A $50.00 money order (money orders can be purchased at the Post Office, CVS or Walgreen’s), leave payee blank.
  2. TWO forms of identification, one must be a photo id  (driver license, passport, social security card, health insurance card). Credit/Debit cards are NOT acceptable forms of ID.
  3. A cell phone to call and make your fingerprint appointment.
  4. A credit or debit card to make a required $52.69 payment when making your fingerprint appointment. (If you do not make payment, you will not get an appointment)

Once you have your fingerprint appointment scheduled, you will receive your temporary bar card work receipt allowing you to begin work the same day.
